Pairings Bistro – Feature Friday

Written By Morgan Knox

Calling all wine lovers! Pairings Bistro knows everything there is to know about wine and as a bonus, they even know what food to pair it with! Pairings Bistro set its roots in Harford County in 2009. The idea came to owner and chef, Jon Kohler, after he and his wife visited Burgundy, France and had a similar dinner experience where the restaurant paired different wines with meals.

Jon started his chef career on the Eastern Shore before moving to Harford County with his wife. Being artistic with food was something that he loved but he never imagined that he would own his own restaurant. “The perfect pairing of wine and food makes each thing better,” stated Jon.

What sets Pairings apart from other restaurants is their ability to pair wine with a dish. They offer three, four, or five course meals with pairings. They are so knowledgeable when it comes to tastes that they not only pair wines, but beer and craft cocktails as well. “Pairing a beverage is like adding another ingredient to your meal,” explained Jon. Another thing that sets them apart from other restaurants is their farm to table approach. Most ingredients are coming straight from local farms.

When we asked what their main goal is, the answer was,It’s all about our guests. We want them to feel comfortable and enjoy this unique dinig experience… or,  if you just want to come in and grab a beer and some sliders, we offer that option as well.” They have heated patios where guests can enjoy outdoor seating, or you may choose to sit inside.  One of the indoor seating areas resembles the inside of a wine barrel

They also have their very own food truck that visits the Bel Air Farmer’s Market as well as local breweries and wineries. How cool is that? Pairings also has a full catering service for parties and weddings.  And in May, they will be opening their market & café that will be located next door to the restaurant. If you are looking for a local restaurant to support, be sure to add Pairings Bistro to that list.
