The Nest on Main – Feature Friday

Written By Morgan Knox

When we are younger, we all have dreams in mind of what we want to do when we grow older. Well for Harford County resident, Kathi Gromacki, she made her dreams a reality. Growing up, Kathi worked at a Hallmark store with the idea that she wanted to own a shop of her own. In 2017, she was able to open The Nest on Main right in the heart of the county. With her store front on Main Street in Bel Air, she has brought a taste of her home to town.

“I wanted my store to feel like my home and not like a gallery,” stated Gromacki. Walking into her store immediately brings a smile to your face. There is something for everyone. The Nest on Main showcases over 20 local artists who make everything from dishes, to candles, to soaps and scrubs, and even cards for special occasions. If the artist isn’t local, they are from somewhere around the U.S. Some of the current vendors are from Vermont, Nevada, Michigan and Oregon.

Usually when discussing Covid, we talk about all the negative things that have happened because of the pandemic. For The Nest and the Gromacki’s, it has a little bit of a different feel. “After Covid, we are coming back with vengeance,” Gromacki claims. During the spring months, Kathi made sure that she could still reach her customers. The Nest adapted by building a website with online ordering capabilities and offering FaceTime calls to customers who were looking to still shop. There social media was a hit and the response from the community was uplifting.

For Kathi, the goal is simple; bring a sense of her home to Main Street. For her, it is all about family and doing what you love. Next time you are looking to purchase a special gift, consider shopping at The Nest on Main.
