Orioles 2021 – Another Statistic For the Books

Written By Andrew Ward

Baltimore Orioles’ pitcher John Means broke a record this year with his no-hitter, which inspired us to look into more Orioles statistics!
According to Baseball-Reference.com, from 1902 to 1953 the Orioles were known as the St. Louis Browns until 1954 when they moved to Baltimore. Coincidentally, the Baltimore Ravens were originally the “Browns” as well.
The Orioles have several retired jersey numbers:

Earl Weaver – #4

Brooks Robinson – #5
Cal Ripken Jr. – #8
Frank Robinson – #20
Jim Palmer – #22
Eddie Murray – #33
Jackie Robinson – #42
Several of these players also made the list of the “Top 10 Players in Franchise History” list. The list from 1 to 10 was Cal Ripken Jr., Brooks Robinson, Jim Palmer, Eddie Murray, George Sisler, Bobby Wallce, Mike Mussina, Urban Shocker, Mark Belanger, and Ken Williams. The Orioles have 35 total players in the Baseball Hall of Fame!
Chris Davis remains as the highest paid Oriole in history, with his seven year contract worth $161 million.
Catch a game at historic Camden Yards Stadium this summer, where any seat in the park guarantees a fantastic view. For more information about the Orioles schedule and ticket purchases, visit www.mlb.com/orioles. For additional statistics and team history, visit www.baseball-reference.com.
