On Wednesday, May 21 the Maryland Golf and Country Clubs will host the Historical Society of Harford County’s, Harford Sports Hall of Fame induction. The event, in its second year, honors local athletes, coaches and athletic administrators from as far back as the 1920s.
Each year, the Hall of Fame committee selects four women and four men who have been nominated by the general public for their outstanding performance as athletes or in the development of athletes and athletic programs.

Last year’s Inaugural Class consisted of: William (Bill) Brown, 60+ year NCAA champion athlete, coach and administrator; Irv Pankey, 2X MD state champion shot put, discus and Wrestling and 14 year NFL player; Richard (Dick) Slutzky, Member National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Marine Corp Wrestling champion; Mike Atkin, 8X World Jiu Jitsu Champion; Alley Carey, D1 AA, Captain World Cup lacrosse team; Fran Matthews, multiple sport championship coach and Athletic Director; Abby Gustaitis, Captain of the 2021 Olympic Rugby Team and TV commentator.
This year’s class consists of Dr. Karen Stout, field hockey, basketball and softball Bel Air High School and Univ of Delaware; Thori Staples Bryan, 9x state champion track and field; World Cup and AA Soccer Player; Phyllis Hemmes, multiple sport championship coach and athletic administrator; Alice Puckett Hall of Fame field hockey and tennis player and coach; Frank Dagostin, co-founder Bel Air and Harford County Parks and Recreation, 40+ coach; Rob Shek, AA and World Team Lacrosse player; Richard (Dick) Fordyce, multiple time champion head coach of Harford Community College Football; Randy McMillan, All JUCO/Big East and nine year NFL running back Baltimore Colts
