Joey Coudon’s Clutch Hitting Propels John Carroll Varsity Patriots To Victory and he BREAKS SINGLE SEASON MIAA HOMERUN RECORD with 32 HRs, passing former Patriot KJ Hockaday (15 HR this season, tying his own single season JC record and one away from MIAA single season record.)
Joey Coudon drove in five runs on five hits to lead John Carroll Varsity Patriots past Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers 19-14 on Thursday. Coudon doubled in the fourth scoring two, hit a solo home run to center field in the third scoring one, singled in the fifth scoring one, and singled in the fifth scoring one.
Bats blistered as John Carroll Varsity Patriots collected 18 hits and Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers tallied nine in the high-scoring game.
Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers got on the board in the top of the first inning after John Carroll Varsity Patriots committed an error, and Noah Vasey walked, each scoring one run.
Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers scored six runs on two hits in the top of the second inning. Cruz Luna drew a walk, scoring one run, an error scored one run, and Vasey hit a grand slam to left field.
John Carroll Varsity Patriots scored one run in the bottom of the third on a solo home run to center field by Coudon.
John Carroll Varsity Patriots scored six runs on five hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Matt Woods doubled, scoring one run, Coudon doubled, scoring two runs, Miguel Leon singled, scoring one run, and TK Dooling doubled, scoring two runs.
John Carroll Varsity Patriots flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring nine runs on seven hits to take the lead, 17-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Woods that drove in two.
Ethan Szymanski earned the win for John Carroll Varsity Patriots. The hurler gave up two hits and one run over two innings, striking out none and walking two. Ryan Waugh took the loss for Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers. The hurler went one inning, allowing six runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Dalton Cole led things off on the mound for John Carroll Varsity Patriots. The pitcher gave up three hits and eight runs (zero earned) over one and one-third innings, striking out one and walking three. Ashton Taylor began the game for Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and six runs over three innings, striking out three and walking four. Brycen Altland, Max Darby, and Chase Selznick each appeared in relief for John Carroll Varsity Patriots.
John Carroll Varsity Patriots accumulated 18 hits in the game. Dooling, Leon, Kiernan Deremeik, and Woods each collected multiple hits for John Carroll Varsity Patriots. John Carroll Varsity Patriots had patience at the plate, amassing six walks for the game. John Carroll Varsity Patriots stole four bases in the game.
Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers collected nine hits in the game. Luna, Braeden  Martin, Anthony Badillo, and Vasey each collected two hits for Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers. Vasey led Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers with four runs batted in. The left fielder went 2-for-4 on the day. Judah Shirlen paced Archbishop Spalding Varsity Cavaliers with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying nine walks for the game.
