Dylan Sander was honored before the game for reaching 1,000 career points, and he played a key role in C. Milton Wright Varsity Mustangs’ 56-54 victory over Edgewood HS on Thursday. Sander finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds, leading the Mustangs to a hard-fought win.
The Mustangs had a solid first half, taking a 27-26 lead into the break and maintaining control throughout the second half. Edgewood HS briefly surged ahead, going on a 7-0 run to lead 37-32. However, C. Milton Wright responded with a 9-2 run to reclaim the lead at 43-41 and never looked back.
The Mustangs’ best quarter came in the second, where they outscored Edgewood 13-11. They shot efficiently from beyond the arc, connecting on 3-of-9 attempts. On the boards, C. Milton Wright dominated, collecting 30 rebounds, with Sander pulling down a team-high 11. Jordan Ross contributed offensively, hitting two three-pointers and finishing with 11 points. Other key scorers included Jamal Hightower (9 points), Kyle Ashman (8 points), Henry Buyse (5 points), and Noah Clarke (2 points).
Clarke also facilitated the offense with a team-leading five assists, helping the Mustangs distribute the ball effectively with 11 assists on 20 field goals.
C. Milton Wright will next compete in the Overlea Holiday Tournament before resuming conference play in the new year.
