Heavy winds prevented another World Record in the American Powerboat Association Nationals on Bush River. World record holder George Kennedy, Jr of Bear, DE edged former world record holder, Jimmy Shane of Havre De Grace. Kennedy set the record in the 1.5 litre class of 65.8 mph in 1999, citing the lack of resistance on the brackish water of the Bush River as a major factor.

Former C Milton Wright pitcher Jay Witasick was from traded from the Kansas City Royals to the San Diego Padres. Witasick was originally drafted in the 2nd round of the 1993 draft by the St Louis Cardinals.

Erick Brown of Joppatowne traveled to Germany as part of the People to People Sports Ambassador’s program, to wrestle the German National Championships. Brown went undefeated in the 3 day tournament, earning the Gold medal.

Harford Countians Dave Jones, Matt Jones, and Steve Horton competed in the American Motorcycle Association Hillclimb Nationals in Beaverdale, PA. Dave Jones, a 3X champion, placed 17th in the 400cc class, Sorton laced 12th in the 400cc class, and Matt Jones placed 17th in the 250cc class.

Tracey Tucker of Bel Air came from behind to win the Hawk Sports Festival Triathlon. Tucker fell behind in the swimming competition but made up the deficit and then some in the 10k run to finish 13 seconds ahead of the field.
