  • Bel Air’s Ben Ibister was named to his 1st of six US Kayaking teams. He’d go on to be world champion in 1979.
  • Led by Tom Battles and Robert Rexroth, the Harford Barbell Club won the Tri-State Powerlifting Championships held in Cumberland.
  • Edgewood’s Pattie Ward was featured in Women’s Sports magazine after being named one of America’s top female high school athletes. Pattie was chosen all county in volleyball, basketball and softball.
  • Edgewood’s Lynn Davis and Bel Air’s Bill Blewett each won two events at the Renaissance Athletic Track Championships. Davis won mile and the 3 mile run. Blewett had a record-setting day, by posting a 8:57.4 in the two mile run, after coming from behind to also win the 100 yard dash
  • Bel Air junior 2nd baseman Joe Stetka was named 2nd team All County by the Aegis. Steka would go on to coach 40 years of high school and semi pro baseball and was an Orioles scout for 20 of those years.
