  • Norrisville Parks and Recreation hosted Donkey Ball in front of 600 spectators. According to The Aegis, the game was played with a wiffle ball and bat. Players wore bib overalls and were required to hit and run bases on the back of a live donkey, which sometimes refused to “play ball.”
  • The Orioles won the Bel Air Little League championship with a record of 13-1. The Orioles were led by a pitching rotation of Phil Hopkins, John Tolley, Jimmie Waters, Mike Mooney and Tim Amos. Offensively they averaged 10 runs per game.
  • 2319 registered for tennis lessons through the Harford County Parks and Recreation Dept. Lessons were held at the six Harford County high schools.
  • Pitcher Manny Gomes led Edgewood to the Susquehanna Baseball league championship by throwing a one-hitter in the championship game.
  • The Aberdeen All Star’s Ellie Ripken led her fast pitch softball team, with the bat and the glove, to a 9-7 nail biter win over Bel Air. Ripken went 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and a couple of outstanding defensive plays.
