- Former Bel Air standout Jeff Grantz finished his football career at the University of South Carolina with 9 season and career team records. Grantz was named All-American and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
- Janet Lacetera ran the best time, men and women, to win the Renaissance All Sports 6 miler on the Flat Skipper course located at Edgewood Arsenal. Finishing almost 5 seconds behind was Pat Romagna, while placing 3rd was Joe Lacetera.
- In a much anticipated girl’s basketball match up, Bel Air shellacked North Harford, 59-36. Led by the jump shooting machine, Ellin Gerety’s 20 points, and the Bobkittens relentless defense, the Hawkettes had trouble controlling the ball.
- Havre De Grace sophomore twins, Alonzo and Alfonso Siebert, had opponents seeing double. The brothers wearing numbers 42 and 24 routinely confused the opposition and had a field day stealing the ball. Against Aberdeen, they accounted for 8 steals.
- Last year’s County champion Lady Eagles of Aberdeen started the season with a 48-24 whipping of last year’s state champions from Mt Hebron. Cheryl Gittings and Carolyn Prince accounted for 30 of Aberdeen’s points while Livia Snell ruled the boards with 16 rebounds
