- Kenya’s Geoffrey Kanuthu and Naomi Wangni easily won the 20th Bel Air Run. The 5k race featured the area’s best distance runners, but none could keep pace with the Kenyans who race for of Elite Sports Management out of Westchester. Kanuthu finished 56 seconds ahead of the second place finishing male.. Wangni, fastest amongst the ladies, finished ahead of 470 men.
- Olney Farms in Joppa hosted a three day Olympic equestrian “warm up” in preparation for the Olympics Games. The event called “Picnic In The Park” featured 140 contestants, competing in dressage, stadium jumping, and cross country racing. Participants are from up and down the East Coast, New York to Florida.
- Five Harford Co baseball players helped the North All Stars beat the South, 12-2, in the 19th Crown All Star game held at Camden Yard. Brian Owens, Phil Akers and Justin Collins represented Fallston High School. North Harford’s Scott Phillips and Edgewood’s Charles Merriweather rounded out the HCPS field of players. Scott Phillips was chosen MVP.
- Harford County’s Rick Schneider completed his 24th 100 mile race in 10 years. Running in the Old Dominion 100 Miler for the 6th time, Schneider became only the 6th racer to earn the Silver and Gold Belt in the race’s 22 year history, awarded to runners that place top ten 5 or more times. At 44 years of age, Schneider was also the oldest runner to compete and place in the top 10.
- Havre De Grace’s Meghan Walsh earned 5 gold medals in the 2000 Maryland Jr Olympics, in Gaithersburg. Walsh, 16, earned gold in the high jump, pole vault, long jump, discus and javelin. She had personal bests in pole vault, discus and javelin.
