- World Champion female wrestler Helen Maroulis competed in her first girl’s only wrestling tournament, held at Edgewood High School. 8-year-old Helen was 3-0 on the day against competition from all over the East Coast.
- Maryland’s top ranked boy’s basketball team from Aberdeen was upset by C Milton Wright 52-51. With 1.8 seconds left, the Mustang’s Justin Rice hit a ‘leaning 3 pointer’ that ended the Eagle’s 16 game win streak.
- Harford County baseball players David Beach and Justin Quinn were selected Rookie All-American by the National High School Baseball Coach’s Association. Beach was a pitcher and third baseman for St Paul’s School, while Quinn was an outfielder for North Harford.
- Joppatowne alum Thori Staples-Bryan was selected to the US National Women’s Soccer Team by the Women’s United Soccer Association. Team USA started with a game vs Japan in Phoenix, Arizona. Thori was an All American at North Carolina State University and member of the 1996 US World Team.
- Grady and Flora Gamble of Edgewood had a memorable week: Flora scored 20 of her team’s 32 points and was named Most Outstanding Player in the Harford/Cecil Basketball championship game. Brother Grady was named Outstanding Junior Wrestler at the Sun Valley Wrestling Classic, in Ashton, PA.
